Vienna, Austria, 9 February 2006: SAIL LABS Technology AG negotiated a settlement with BBN Technologies, a former supplier of components for SAIL LABS Technology's award-winning Media Mining System. The court rejected BBN's temporary injunction against SAIL LABS Technology in all substantial claims, requiring BBN to reimburse SAIL LABS for legal costs.

Contrary to a recent press release by BBN about the case that deals with a software version which was withdrawn from the market 3 years ago, SAIL LABS has never been a distributor of BBN's Audio Indexer product, the settlement requires sharing of legal costs and has not determined unlawful use of BBN components. SAIL LABS Technology AG voluntarily agreed to a verification of its accounting through an independent organization to prove its correctness.

"We used third party, including BBN, components in the early phase of our products until our own components reached product level and they were replaced", says Christoph Prinz, COO of SAIL LABS Technology. "Ever since, BBN has tried everything, including legal measures, to prevent open competition in the US market, while customers who compared the products are really impressed by our software. We consider BBN's press release a violation of unfair-competition laws and have asked our legal counsel to immediately take all possible action."

The SAIL LABS Media Mining System provides an analysis of recorded audio and video files, including transcripts from speech, using SAIL LABS proprietary speech recognition. The system supports a multitude of languages, including US and International English, Arabic, Spanish, German, French and Greek. The Media Mining System has recently been enhanced to support Podcast indexing, enabling Podcast search engines to create metadata from audio and video files.
