Vienna, Austria, 4 October 2004: SAIL LABS Technology, a leading provider of speech and multimedia analysis software, today confirmed its participation in REVEAL THIS, a new research project funded by the European Union with EUR 2.3 million, in a total budget of EUR 3.49 million.
SAIL LABS partners with major European research institutions and software companies to collaborate in the 'REtrieval of VidEo And Language for The Home user in an Information Society' project, funded under the 6th Framework Programme. The main objective of the REVEAL THIS project is the design, development and testing of an integrated infrastructure, which allows end users to store, categorize and retrieve multimedia and multi-lingual content from different sources (TV, radio, World Wide Web etc.), different media (speech, text, image) and different languages.
The majority of the information that people are accessing today is in digital form: digital radio, music CDs, MP3 files, digital satellite and digital terrestrial TV, personal digital pictures and videos and digital information accessed through the Web. REVEAL THIS aims at developing content programming technology able to capture, semantically index, categorize and cross-link multi-platform, multimedia and multi-lingual digital content, as well as provide the system user with semantic search, retrieval, summarization and translation functionalities. Content providers will use the technology to offer personalized content as a service, while the end-user version will be embedded in a Personalized Entertainment System (PES).
REVEAL THIS is bringing together expertise in each component technology (speech, text, image and video processing) in an exciting cross-disciplinary challenge. The Project Consortium includes 3 research and academic institutions and 4 private companies (see full list below). The project will run for a period of 30 months.
