TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

HARDWARE PREREQUISITES

The Media Mining Server does not require any specific hardware. Like any Media Asset Management software, the hardware requirements are mostly determined by the requirements for storing media files, associated metadata and the requirement to achieve response time during periods of peak load.

Media Mining software typically operates on the following hardware:

  • Intel Server Processor 5000 series
(Quad Core minimum; Dual Quad Core recommended)
  • 64 GB memory minimum (128 GB recommended)
  • RAID-10 disk array, 4 x 500 GB

The disk storage requirements can be estimated as follows: one hour of video encoded at Dual ISDN bandwidth (128 kbit/s) takes approx. 120 MB. The associated metadata requires approx. 250 kB of storage. 200 GB of disk space hold approximately 200GB / 120MB = 1660 hrs of video. We assume that we need some buffer for disk administration and that the database needs approx. 10% of the size of the media for storing the transcript and metadata, so this gives us a net space for approx. 1600 hrs of content.
