MEDIA MINING SERVER Increasing volume of multimedia data require means for storage and easy access to information. The Media Mining Server turns your audio library from a collection into a tool.
OVERVIEW
The Media Mining Server stores the indexed audio data processed by the Media Mining Indexer. It also provides the graphical user interface, the Media Mining Explorer, for search and retrieval of relevant information from your previously inaccessible multimedia databases.
Once you log on to the server, you have the option to enter a free text search query or choose a summarized view of all the broadcasts. You can choose a summarized view of one channel, or of episodes broadcast in a particular time frame, or of all episodes in a specific language. The focus of the summarize and search options can be further streamlined on the basis of a specific Topic, Person, Organization, Location or Speaker.
The User interface is provided with a Guided Tour and Online Help functionality to help users navigate through the multimedia information. Users can choose to search through episodes broadcast over a particular period ranging from last six months to the last two days. One can also maintain a record of one's previous queries for future reference.
- Users can choose from a selection of User Interface, Search Query and Output Language options. You could have an English Interface and search through Arabic news broadcasts by entering your query in French
- Summarization of folder content by keyword gives users a composite view of episodes
- Search query is language independent; a search for money in different language channels will return instances of "money" in English, "Geld" in German etc. One can search for information in a foreign language channel without even knowing the language
- The Episode Management Center facilitates removal and addition of broadcasted programs
- High Scope of scalability based on number of users and volume of processed information
- Full text search capability makes searching through multimedia data very simple
- Search focus can be tuned on the basis of structured text fields, such as names of organizations, locations, speakers and topics
HARDWARE PREREQUISITES
The Media Mining Server does not require any specific hardware. Like any Media Asset Management software, the hardware requirements are mostly determined by the requirements for storing media files, associated metadata and the requirement to achieve response time during periods of peak load.
Media Mining software typically operates on the following hardware:
- Intel Pentium 4 2.6 GHz CPU
- 1 GB memory
- RAID-5 disk array 250 GB - 2 TB
The disk storage requirements can be estimated as follows: one hour of video encoded at Dual ISDN bandwidth (128 kbit/s) takes approx. 120 MB. The associated metadata requires approx. 250 kB of storage. 200 GB of disk space hold approximately 200GB / 120MB = 1660 hrs of video. We assume that we need some buffer for disk administration and that the database needs approx. 10% of the size of the media for storing the transcript and metadata, so this gives us a net space for approx. 1600 hrs of content.
REQUIRED SOFTWARE FOR MEDIA MINING SERVER
The following software is prerequisite for installation of Media Mining Server. It must be installed on the server machine before Media Mining Server is installed on the server machine.
- Windows 2000 (Professional Edition or Server) or Windows XP or Windows Server 2003
- Oracle 9i (Enterprise Edition preferred, or Professional Edition)
- RealNetworks Helix Server (can be downloaded from www.realnetworks.com)
- Java 2 SDK version 1.4.2 (can be found on the Media Mining Server installation CD or downloaded from java.sun.com)
REQUIRED SOFTWARE FOR THE WEB APPLICATION
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or later. (Versions below 6.0 do not support all XSLT features needed by the Web Application.)
- RealOne Player *(the basic version can be downloaded from www.realnetworks.com).
* RealOne Player is required for video display and audio playback within the Web Application. Note that if the story playback is not smooth and the bandwidth showing in the Real Player window is lower than the minimum of your network and media file rate, check Real Player Preferences\Connection\Bandwidth and reset it according to your network.
The following software is required on client machines in order to run the Media Mining Server's Web Application.
The Episode Management Center (EMC) is an administrative utility, which is installed with Media Mining Server. You can use the EMC to copy episodes from one server to another server, and to remove episodes from a server. Also, with the EMC you can alter meta-info. This means that you can edit:
- Programs, Channels: on a per episode basis in the Time View of the EMC
- Episodes: in the Time View
Stories cannot be edited at this level.
The Management Console is a utility of Media Mining Server that provides a system administration function for the setting of user and access rights. With the MC you can:
- Add user with name and password
- Change password
- Add/remove channel from access list
- Add/remove episode from access list
- View and change user settings
